Jelgava Jewish Community
The Jewish community of Jelgava was founded in 1996 and currently it numbers about 50 members.
Jewish community of Jelgava is a member of Latvian Council of Jewish Communities.
Members of the community follow the traditions in celebrating Jewish holidays, honor the memory of Holocaust victims in memorial days. The Jewish community of Jelgava has set a monumental stone on the Jewish cemetery of the city, and two monuments on places where Jews were killed during the Holocaust – in the forest near Jelgava.
One of the main missions of the community is ensuring social aid to elderly people, mainly the needy pensioners. A pensioner club is also working in the community.
The community is a member of National Cultural Communities Association of Jelgava and takes active part in various cultural programs and projects.The community is well-known for its dance group “Simcha”.
