Library of the Riga Jewish Community
The Library is named after Elelonora Shwab, who has lived in The United States and has donated money for its foundation.The ceremony of the library’s opening was honoured by the presence of Latvian president Vaira Vike- Freiberga. Among ten thousands of the library’s volumes the majority of books are in Yiddish, Russian and Latvian. It’s literature on the Jewish history, history of Latvian Jewry, Judaism, as well as fiction and many Latvian and foreign periodicals.There is a reference room in the library.The library numbers about 800 readers. The services of the library are uses by members of Jewish Community, Latvian pupils and students, historians, pedagogues, journalists.The club “Hasefer” works in the library; the members of the club gather for discussions and presentations of books, meet with authors.
