Ludza Jewish Religious Community

The community was founded in 1991.
In the beginning of year 2008 Ludza Jewish Community had 15 members.
Ludza Jewish Community is a member of Latvian Council of Jewish Communities.
Regardless of the small number of Ludza jews, the community celebrates all jewish holidays, takes care of the city jewish cemetery, provides social aid to the poor and ill members.
Special attention is paid to studying the history of Ludza jewry, keeping and honouring the memory of the jews, who were killed during Holocaust.  Every third Sunday in august  the memory day ceremony is held; many native Ludza Jews and their descendants come to the ceremony.
One of the oldest synagogues in Latvia( 1801) is located in Ludza.
