On November 30, a ceremony dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust was held for the first time at the Freedom Monument. Residents of Riga were lighting candles in memory of 25 thousands of Jews, who were shot in the Rumbula forest exactly 75 years ago, on November 30 and December 8, year 1941. This was the first event dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust that was held at the initiative of the society. Hundreds of Latvians have joined together to come to the Freedom Monument and commemorate the killed Jews. The inspirers and organisers of the event were Lolita Tomsone—the director of the Žanis Lipke Memorial—and historian Kaspars Zellis.
