On November 29, foreign diplomats, representatives of public organizations and the Jewish community gathered at the Rumbula Memorial to commemorate the Jews killed in the Rumbula forest. In 1941, on November 30 and December 8, the Nazis and their local supporters murdered here 25 thousand Riga ghetto prisoners, including more than 5 thousand children, as well as about a thousand Jews deported from Germany.

The event was led by the vice-president of the Jewish Community of Latvia Dmitry Krupnikov. Rabbi of the Riga synagogue Elijohu Krumer and member of the congregation Eli Loiberg held a prayer in memory of those who died in the Holocaust.

The attendees were addressed by the Head of the Latvian delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Einars Mikelsons, the German Ambassador to Latvia Gudrun Masloch, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Israeli Embassy in Latvia Gal Rudich and students of the Sh. Dubnov Riga Jewish Secondary School.

The event ended with a flower and candle laying ceremony.
