On December 15, representatives of the Jewish community, the leadership of the Liepaja City Council, the Israeli ambassador and the Russian consul general came to the memorial in Šķēde to commemorate the victims of Nazism.
Many Liepaja inhabitants and guests visited the Jewish part of the Līvas cemetery, laid flowers at the memorial wall with thousands of names of murdered Jewish citizens, and lit candles in their memory.
The commemoration does not end there. We remind you that today, on 17 December, at 17:00, an online conversation with experts will be held about the remembrance date in the Facebook profile of the Žanis Lipkes Memorial or online at lipke.lv. There will be stories about Liepaja’s pre-war Jewish community, data from a new study on the Holocaust in Liepaja, an overview of those saved and rescued in and around Liepaja and the post-war memories of the Holocaust.
